Overview
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) explain the rules for using the Chronicles of Wordcraft website, newsletters, digital downloads, press materials, and other reader-facing services we operate (together, the “Services”). When we say “we”, “us”, or “our”, we mean the Chronicles of Wordcraft imprint run under the pen name R. R. Thalore. When we say “you” or “your”, we mean any person who visits or uses our Services.
By accessing or using any part of the Services, you are agreeing to these Terms. If you do not agree, you should not use the Services. Please read these Terms together with our Privacy Policy, Permissions & Licensing page, Disclosures page, Community Guidelines, Accessibility Statement, and DMCA / Attributions pages, which describe other important pieces of how we operate.
We are puzzle creators, not your lawyers. This document is meant to be clear and fair, but it is not legal advice for your own situation.
1. Who we are and how these Terms apply
Chronicles of Wordcraft is a small, creator-led imprint focused on mythology-inspired puzzle books, bonus packs, and related art. These Terms apply whenever you:
- Visit or browse rrthalore.com or any path under that domain.
- Access content we host, including help pages, legal pages, landing pages, and the reader library.
- Download or view digital materials we distribute directly (such as puzzle bonus packs and sample pages).
- Use press materials, brand assets, or artwork that we make available for media or promotional use.
By using the Services, you represent that you are legally able to enter into these Terms in your place of residence. If you are using the Services on behalf of an organisation (for example, a school, library, or publisher), you confirm that you are authorised to accept these Terms on that organisation’s behalf.
2. Permitted use of the Services
The Services are intended for personal enjoyment, light educational use, and ordinary informational browsing. Unless a separate written agreement says otherwise, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to:
- Access and read the content on our website.
- Download digital puzzle packs and other files we provide for your own personal use or as allowed by our Permissions & Licensing page.
- Share public links to rrthalore.com content in a way that does not misrepresent our work or suggest an endorsement.
You must not use the Services:
- For any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
- To copy, scrape, archive, or systematically download large portions of the site or our catalogues, whether manually or using automated tools.
- To interfere with or disrupt the security or operation of the Services or supporting infrastructure.
- To misrepresent your identity or affiliation, or to falsely imply that you are endorsed by or partnered with Chronicles of Wordcraft.
Additional rules for community interaction are set out in our Community Guidelines.
3. Intellectual property and ownership of content
Unless we say otherwise, all content in the Services is owned by us or used with permission. This includes:
- Book interiors, covers, and puzzle designs.
- Artwork, watermarks, coins, silhouettes, and other visual motifs.
- Logos, crests, wordmarks, and other branding elements.
- Text on the website, including help articles, legal copy, and marketing language.
- Any digital bonuses, PDFs, or sample materials we distribute to you, except where clearly attributed to a third party.
You do not gain any ownership rights to this content by downloading, viewing, or otherwise accessing it. All rights not expressly granted to you in these Terms or in our Permissions & Licensing page are reserved.
If you want to use our puzzles, artwork, or other content beyond personal or small classroom use—for example, in your own commercial product, in an app, or in a paid workshop—you must follow the rules and request process described in Permissions & Licensing. When in doubt, ask before you reuse.
4. Press kit, logos, and brand assets
We may provide a press kit or similar resource that includes approved logos, cover images, author photos, and other brand assets (the “Press Assets”). These materials exist so that reviewers, journalists, booksellers, and legitimate partners can accurately reference Chronicles of Wordcraft.
Unless a separate written agreement says otherwise, you may use Press Assets only if all of the following are true:
- Your use is solely for editorial, review, or informational purposes (for example, a blog review, podcast feature, catalogue listing, or non-monetised social post about our books).
- You do not alter the logos or crest, except to resize them proportionally or apply minimal cropping that does not damage or obscure the design.
- You do not combine the crest, logos, or wordmarks with your own branding in a way that suggests a joint logo, new imprint, or shared trademark.
- You do not use our brand assets on products, merchandise, book covers, or puzzle interiors that you sell or distribute, unless we have given you prior written permission.
- You do not use the Press Assets in any context that is defamatory, hateful, misleading, or otherwise harmful to our reputation.
You must not:
- Register or use domain names, social handles, or app names that are confusingly similar to our branding.
- Use our crest, logos, or cover art in a way that implies you are “the official” Chronicles of Wordcraft publisher, imprint, or partner when you are not.
- Feed our Press Assets, covers, or interior pages into data sets or tools for training or improving AI models without our explicit written permission.
If you are unsure whether your use of our Press Assets is allowed, please contact us before publishing. Misuse of the Press Assets may result in revocation of permission and further action where appropriate.
5. Using our puzzles, art, and downloads
Our Permissions & Licensing page describes, in plain language, what you can and cannot do with our puzzles and art. In summary:
- Personal enjoyment and casual home printing are generally allowed, within reasonable limits, as long as you do not remove copyright notices or claim the work as your own.
- Small-scale educational use (for example, using a few puzzles in a single classroom) may be allowed, but some uses may require attribution or a separate license. The details live on the Permissions & Licensing page.
- Commercial use, resale, bundling with your own products, or republishing our puzzles or art (even if modified) is not allowed without a written license from us.
- You may not use our materials to create a competing puzzle book, workbook, colouring book, app, or digital product—even if you retype or trace the content—unless we have expressly agreed in writing.
- You may not upload our PDFs, interior pages, or artwork to public file-sharing sites, prompt libraries, training sets, or other repositories that would allow others to reuse them without our permission.
If these Terms conflict with a more specific permission granted to you in writing (for example, in a license agreement or signed contract), the written agreement will govern for that specific project.
6. Suggestions, submissions, and user content
From time to time, we may invite you to submit ideas—for example, puzzle themes you would like to see next, feedback on existing books, or suggestions through a voting or suggestion box. We love hearing from readers, but we need some clear rules around how we can use those ideas.
By sending us any suggestion, idea, or other content (“User Content”), you agree that:
- You have the right to share the User Content and it does not infringe anyone else’s rights, including copyright or privacy rights.
- You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, adapt, publish, translate, and create derivative works from your User Content in any format, for purposes related to running and improving Chronicles of Wordcraft.
- We are not required to credit you, pay you, or adopt your suggestion, even if it influences a future product.
- We may remove or decline User Content at our discretion, especially if it violates our Community Guidelines.
Please do not send us confidential information, book proposals, or unpublished manuscripts unless we have specifically asked for them in writing. We cannot agree to confidentiality for unsolicited submissions.
7. Third-party services, stores, and affiliate relationships
The Services may include links to third-party websites, platforms, or tools—for example, online bookstores, email services, file-hosting platforms, or products we recommend to other creators. Your use of those third parties is governed by their own terms of use and privacy policies, not by these Terms.
We sometimes use affiliate links, discount codes, or sponsorships when we talk about tools we genuinely use. Our Disclosures page and Affiliate & Partnerships page explain how those relationships work and how we label them.
We do not control third-party sites or services and are not responsible for:
- Their content, availability, or security.
- Any loss or damage caused by your use of them.
- The way they collect, use, or protect your personal information (see also our Privacy Policy for more on how we handle data within our control).
8. Acceptable use and community conduct
Whenever you interact with Chronicles of Wordcraft—whether through suggestion boxes, email replies, social channels we link to, or other interactive features—you agree to:
- Be respectful of other readers and of our team.
- Avoid harassment, hate speech, or discrimination of any kind.
- Refrain from posting content that is unlawful, defamatory, or invasive of another person’s privacy.
- Avoid spamming, flooding, or otherwise overwhelming any feedback or voting tools we provide (for example, by using bots or multiple accounts to manipulate results).
We may moderate, edit, or remove communications that violate these expectations and may restrict access to our Services in serious or repeated cases. For more detail, see our Community Guidelines.
9. Disclaimers
We aim for accurate, enjoyable, and well-researched content, but the Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties or representations, express or implied, about the Services, including (without limitation):
- That the Services will be uninterrupted, secure, or free from errors or omissions.
- That any puzzles, tips, or references will meet your expectations or be suitable for your particular purpose.
- That external links, partner offerings, or third-party tools we mention will be accurate, current, or available in your region.
Any reliance on information provided through the Services is at your own risk. Where our content touches on topics like publishing, business, or technology, it reflects our own experience and is not professional advice.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Chronicles of Wordcraft (and anyone working with us) will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits or revenue, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Services.
Where we are found to be liable to you despite the above, our total liability for all claims related to the Services will be limited to the greater of:
- The total amount you paid directly to us (if any) for the specific product or service giving rise to the claim, or
- Fifty Canadian dollars (CAD $50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations or exclusions of liability. In those places, the above limitations will apply only to the extent permitted by local law.
11. Your responsibility to us
If you use the Services in a way that violates these Terms or the law, and that use causes us harm, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Chronicles of Wordcraft and its operators from and against any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to that use.
This includes, for example, situations where you:
- Copy or resell our content without permission.
- Misuse our brand or Press Assets in a way that confuses the public.
- Upload infringing material through our suggestion or contact channels.
12. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are intended to be interpreted under the laws of Canada and, where applicable, the laws of the province or territory in which our imprint is primarily based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
If a dispute arises that we cannot resolve informally, you and we agree to seek a solution in good faith discussions first. If that does not resolve the matter, the dispute may be brought before the courts located in our home province in Canada, unless a different forum is required by mandatory local law.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you may have under consumer-protection laws that cannot be waived.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time—for example, to reflect new products, new features, or changes in law. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the “Last reviewed” date in the footer of this page, and
- Where appropriate, mention the change on our Release & Updates page or in reader communications.
If you continue to use the Services after updated Terms take effect, you are indicating that you accept the new version. If you do not agree with the changes, you should stop using the Services.
14. Questions and contact
If you have any questions about these Terms, how they relate to our Permissions & Licensing rules, or how they interact with our Disclosures, Community, Accessibility, DMCA, or Attributions pages, please reach out.
You can contact us at [email protected]. Please include “Terms of Use” in the subject line so we can route your message appropriately.
