Overview
This page explains the different kinds of emails we send, how we decide when to email you, and how you can change your preferences or unsubscribe at any time.
It is written in plain language and is meant to sit alongside our core legal pages. For the full legal details, please also review:
- Privacy Policy
- Cookies
- Terms of Use
- Disclosures and our Affiliate & Partnerships page
- Permissions & Licensing and Press Kit for how you may (and may not) use our intellectual property
If anything on this page ever conflicts with the Privacy Policy, Cookies, or Terms of Use, those pages will always take precedence.
1. What kinds of email we send
When we say “our emails,” we are mainly talking about messages related to Chronicles of Wordcraft books, digital bonuses, and myth-themed projects. Typical categories include:
- Welcome & onboarding: confirmations when you first join a waitlist or sign up for a bonus pack.
- Bonus delivery: links to download puzzle packs or other promised resources.
- Updates & releases: news when a new book, series, or bonus is available.
- Behind-the-scenes & helpful tips: occasional notes about printing, troubleshooting, or upcoming plans.
- Administrative & legal: changes to this policy, the Privacy Policy, Cookies, or Terms of Use.
We try to keep our volume reasonable. You should not expect daily messages from us. If at any point the frequency feels like too much, you can dial it back or unsubscribe entirely.
2. How we collect your email address
We collect email addresses in a few main ways:
- When you fill out a form on our website (for example, to join a waitlist or request a bonus pack).
- When you click through from a QR code that leads to one of our forms.
- If you email us directly and ask to be added to a list or to receive a specific resource.
We do not buy bulk email lists or scrape addresses from social media. Every address in our system should be there because someone chose to hear from us or requested a specific resource.
For more detail on what information is collected alongside your email address (for example, IP address or approximate region) and why, please see the Privacy Policy and Cookies page.
3. Why we are allowed to email you
From a legal standpoint, we generally rely on one of the following bases (depending on your location and the specific email):
- Consent: you explicitly asked to receive a bonus pack, joined a waitlist, or ticked a box to hear from us.
- Contractual necessity: we need to send you information to deliver something you requested (for example, a download link or troubleshooting help).
- Legitimate interest: we may occasionally send relevant updates about similar books or bonuses, where allowed by law and where your privacy rights are respected.
You always have the right to object to marketing emails and to withdraw consent for non-essential messaging. The simplest way to do this is to use the unsubscribe or “manage preferences” links in the footer of any email.
4. Managing your email preferences
Most of our messages include a link labelled something like “Manage preferences” or “Update profile” in the footer. This is usually the best place to:
- Change which topics or series you hear about (for example, Olympian vs. Zodiac projects).
- Update your name or preferred email address.
- Opt out of certain categories while staying on others.
If you cannot find or use the preference link, you can always email us at [email protected] from the address we have on file and tell us what you want changed. For security, we may need to confirm that you control the address before making updates.
5. How to unsubscribe
You can unsubscribe at any time in three main ways:
- Click the “unsubscribe” or “unsubscribe from all” link in the footer of a message.
- Use the “manage preferences” link to deselect all marketing categories.
- Email [email protected] and ask us to remove you from marketing lists.
When you unsubscribe from marketing messages, we will stop sending promotional or newsletter-style emails to that address. However, we may still send essential messages when necessary, such as:
- Delivering a resource you specifically requested.
- Important changes to legal terms that affect resources you already use.
- Receipts or records required by law if you purchase a product directly from us in the future.
We also maintain a limited record of your email address in a “do not contact” list so that we can honor your unsubscribe request and avoid accidentally re-adding you later.
6. Transactional vs. marketing emails
Not every email we send is “marketing.” Some messages are simply part of delivering what you asked for. In general:
- Transactional / essential emails include things like bonus pack links, passwordless access links (if we use them), or replies from support when you contact us.
- Marketing / promotional emails include launch announcements, sales, special offers, or general news about upcoming series.
You can opt out of marketing at any time. If you choose to do so, we will still send essential messages that are required to deliver an item you specifically request, or to meet our legal obligations.
7. Affiliates, partners & press
Sometimes you may discover our books through a third party—such as an affiliate, reviewer, or educator who shares a link to our site.
- If you sign up through an affiliate link, the affiliate may receive credit for the referral, but they do not gain direct access to our email system or to your individual subscription settings.
- If we ever run sponsored features or partnerships, we will clearly label them and follow the rules described on our Disclosures and Affiliate & Partnerships pages.
- Press kit materials are provided only to help journalists, bloggers, and event organizers accurately represent Chronicles of Wordcraft. They do not grant any right to send email on our behalf or to reuse our art in your own products. For usage rules, please see Permissions & Licensing, Terms of Use, and the Press Kit page.
8. How long we keep your data & how it is protected
We keep your email address and related subscription data only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purposes described in this page and in our Privacy Policy. Examples include:
- Delivering ongoing series or bonus content you have requested.
- Maintaining accurate records of consent, unsubscribes, and legal notices.
- Aggregated analytics that help us understand which books or puzzles readers enjoy most.
We use reputable email and analytics providers and take reasonable measures to protect subscriber information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep data access limited and appropriate to the tools we use.
For details on your rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal data, please see the Privacy Policy. That page also explains how cookies and similar technologies interact with email analytics (for example, when tracking opens or link clicks).
9. Children, families & classroom lists
Our books and puzzles are suitable for a wide range of ages, but our email lists and preference tools are designed for adults (such as parents, guardians, and educators), not for unsupervised children.
- We encourage teachers and parents to use their own email addresses when requesting bonuses or updates.
- Children should not provide personal email addresses directly to us without the consent of a parent or guardian.
- If you believe a child under the relevant age in your region has subscribed without permission, please contact us so we can remove or adjust the subscription.
The Privacy Policy contains additional information about children’s data and regional requirements (for example, in the EU, UK, Canada, and the United States).
10. Questions or requests about your preferences
If you ever have trouble finding the right link, believe you are receiving messages you did not agree to, or simply want a human to double-check your settings, please reach out.
You can contact us at [email protected] or via the form on our Contact page. To help us respond quickly, please include:
- The email address you are writing about (if different from the one you are using).
- Whether you want to unsubscribe from everything or adjust specific preferences.
- Any example subject lines or approximate dates for messages that felt unexpected.
We may ask for a brief confirmation to make sure we are updating the correct subscriber. Once processed, changes should take effect within a reasonable time, and we will do our best to avoid sending unwanted messages in the meantime.
